Languid

A FILM BY MJ STRASBURGER

Set against a kaleidoscopic view of the Midwest, Languid follows a budding romance thrown into disarray by a mysterious disappearance. An independent, feature-length film by Nebraska-based filmmaker and visual artist MJ Strasburger, Languid is a meditation on the ambiguities of love, youth in a time of decay, and impermanence. Images and sounds you can feel; incandescent suburbs, glowing skin, dew-speckled prairies, and burning love.

Currently in production and fiscally sponsored by Amplify, Languid will be made available for public screenings, discussions, and organizing events around Omaha, Lincoln, and beyond to build and strengthen independent artist networks around the state, bolster the discussion and production of independent film in Nebraska, and facilitate critical conversations around organizing against the myriad forces seeking to censor queer, BIPOC, and other marginalized artists.

MJ Strasburger is a filmmaker and visual artist living and working in Nebraska. Strasburger’s films employ techniques of haptic cinema to explore connections between the fluidities of nature and the human body, using sensorial cinematic forms to manifest the uncertainty, alienation and disembodiment of contemporary experience and environmental degradation.

Strasburger received an MFA in Film Production from Loyola Marymount University and BA from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Strasburger’s work has screened at Film at Lincoln Center in New York City as part of the Dance on Camera Festival, won Best Cinematography at the Torino Underground Cinefest in Turin, Italy, and has screened at numerous other festivals nationally and internationally, including the Charlotte Film Festival, Milwaukee Underground Film Festival, Festival Internacional VideoDanzaBA and dança em foco.

Languid, Strasburger’s debut feature-length film, is currently in post-production.
