To help commemorate their 50th anniversary, the Omaha Storm Chasers partnered with Amplify Arts to issue a call for a large-scale mural at Werner Park. The selected proposal traces the team’s history with depictions its accomplishments, significant players, and the two stadiums it has called home. Mural artist, Hugo Zamorano, surveyed community stakeholder groups to better understand what having a minor league team in Omaha means to baseball fans. Additionally, he organized a community paint day that let fans celebrate the team’s past while actively shaping its future.

Mural: Hugo Zamorano

Hugo Zamorano was born in Los Angeles, California. He began his path as an artist when his kindergarten teacher read A Very Hungry Caterpillar to the whole class. That is when he decided to be an artist. California is where he raised his first Pit Bull dog and where he discovered Graffiti Writing and Hip Hop. He now resides in South Omaha, Nebraska. Nebraska is where he began to grow as an artist, where he received his BFA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where some friends became family, where he began boxing, raised his current Pit Bull, and met his fiancée.
