Generator Projects are Moving!
After six great years at Generator Space on Vinton Street, we’re excited to share that Generator Series projects are on the move. Starting in August of 2025 and throughout the rest of the year, these artist-led projects that invite collaboration and participation will happen at Millwork Commons, a hub for creativity, innovation, and community. We’re excited to see how this new setting will shape the next chapter of Generator Series programming.
We’ll miss our neighbors on Vinton Street and taking part in the block’s second Friday art walks and at the same time, we’re looking forward to continuing to support challenging, inquiry-driven projects in a new context.
Generator Series projects began in 2017 in unconventional, nontraditional, and public outdoor spaces before we relocated to Vinton Street in 2019. We believe a return to that format will support our organizational goal of fostering a deep appreciation of arts and culture as essentials, not luxuries, by opening up artists’ work to broader audiences in freely accessible public spaces.
Although the location of Generator projects may change, our dedication to providing funding and logistical support for artist-led work that explores liberatory ideas is a constant and underpins everything we do. We’re grateful to Millwork Commons for their partnership, vision, and for championing the vital work artists do.

A change in building ownership and unexpected rent increase were both contributing factors that shaped our decision to leave Generator Space. Additionally, as an organization, we’re focused on highlighting arts and culture as essentials in all of our lives, not luxuries enjoyed by a few. We believe we can move closer to that goal by facilitating creative work in freely accessible public spaces.

We’re not sure exactly what Generator Space will become in its next life. We’re excited to see what happens, and know the neighborhood will continue to be a place that welcomes artists and creative exploration.
